In case you aren't familiar with 4K technology, it is the next evolution of high-definition video. Specifically, 4K is double the resolution of the current industry standard, 1080p (1920 x 1080), with a total resolution of 4096 x 2160. Clearly the huge hike in lines of resolution per-inch results in a finer, more detailed picture, but the primary application of 4K is creating high-quality picture at a larger scale, such as projectors and big screen TVs. As of right now the technology is still only in its infancy, with only a handful of theaters nationwide equipped with 4K and no consumer-grade displays on the market, however, we get a taste of the future when companies like Panasonic show it off in prototype form, like they have with the 152-inch HDTV.
